I LOVE THIS DESK

Chris Evans | 15:12 UK time, Tuesday, 26 February 2008

I am currently sat at the the best...

....kept desk in the office.

It belongs to Carmella who works on Sarah's show.

It's exactly the same as everyone else's desk but it's soooooo much tidier. It's so tidy in fact it actually looks like a different desk. It's blissfully calm, even it's grey colour has something chic about it.

I love writing the blog at this desk. I don't have a desk you see. When I arrive here every day I am assigned a station. I am "set up" somewhere or other.

"Oh hi darling, I've set you up over there !"

When I am "set up" over here the day immediately feels better.

And listen to this...

I just booked my first guest for The Sunday Supplement. Sat here, I am sat opposite Claire The Sunday Supp researcher, she was talking along with Big Ant (her producer) about a guest for this week, so I made a suggestion and she said whooppee could I make that happen. Secretly now under pressure I made a call and hey presto the guy said yes, I had actually booked a guest.

So this Sunday at 11.30. Fiona Bruce will be saying

"....and now we welcome detective seargent Hatahaway, Laurence Fox to the programme."

Listen y'all he's a very intelligent, funny, talented bloke and he's in one of the only decent shows left on the telly.

Now who can I sort them out with for next week ?

CLP.

Know what you mean re tidy desks

I feel so much better after we have had our "friday tidy" session in the office each week.

Each friday afternoon...we sort out all the rubbish...clean the desks...make sure bins and cups are cleaned and emptied and get the filing up to date

    Good afternoon Chris...
I have not been on here for a while, so hi to all. I listen to all your shows on the weekend as I am at work when you are on.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the book you spoke of yesterday, you can get online at this link FOR FREE :

It is the whole book - and it is not a large book .... so you can print it out at your leisure.

Keep up the great work Chris and I am on the bandwagon baby with the Fountain Of Youth!! I have already started counting backwards so this will confirm what I have said all along !! That I AM 29 - or will be soon - right? You promise?? :-)

    Love to all

    Hi CLP

Ahhh... clean desks.... tidy drawers.... polished angle poise....

An old teacher of mine once commented that he could tell a lot about a person by how tidy their desk was. I think that's true. I'd bet that Carmella is organised in other areas of her life too, and the fact that you coveted her desk Chris, suggests that you may not be so organised but would dearly love to be !!

Keep watching this space for the next chapter of deskology (or is it desktherapy?)

And CLP managing to book Mr Fox reminds me of an adage that must not be forgotten:

    It's not what you know.
It's not even who you know.
It's what you know about who you know!!

Good to hear you are in such a good mood so how come someone with your high profile does`nt have his own desk to work from and you need to use hot desks all the time sounds like you will need to get that one sorted out

    looking forward to the show

Each time i read your blog i have to go of to search Google to see who or were you are blogging to me about. Would it be possible to highlight topics so we can follow a link to say wikipedia etc. i.e today i had to Google Laurence Fox then knew who he was straight away.

I spin and spin and spin...

And then I'm sick! But they are so right - I feel so much better after that.

Oh dear - good job I work for myself - "Printer cartridge low" - will take it with me on my next Phoebe spin to give it a bit more life.
Tidy desk - I wish!!! Tesco & M&S internet vouchers here somewhere!

    Well now what's all this.

Sunday Supplement? Wha? Ah no I'm back after 2 weeks from the Promised Land, where they enter turkeys into the Eurovision and Ireland's Biggest Ball Of String into the National Records, build Port Tunnels too small to fit lorries through and hold the Toilet Duck Comedy Awards on an uninhabited island in February, and I feel like I've come outa coma.

I've some catchin' up to do it seems.

This desk dilemma. I don't have a desk either. A desk is a reponsibility I want only slightly less than I want a husband, a nasty rash or a camel.

It goes back to my school days when desks had inkwells and lids like the jaws of an alligator, and I nearly lost all me fingers by trying to hide me nail varnish within said furniture before the letch of a Geography teacher slimed up to me and sat on it.

I was also traumatically outed as being the artist of the graffiti depicting the Senior Mistress wearing a moustache and a Bolshevik's helmet and brandishing a baseball bat during a spot inspection by the art teacher during Operation Tufty, looking for stolen sable brushes and Cow Gum.

Happy Days. Ooo got to go; the daughter Lucrezia Borgia is here and looks like she means business.

    A Bientot.

I too am sat at a desk that I love very much! It's only calm and tidy because everything that belongs on or near it is in another room. But it has an amazing view and I like sitting here.

Ok guys and girls, I've decided I need to go and do something because I'm slowly going stir-crazy sat at my beautifully calm and tidy desk looking out at the hills. Had a (teary) chat to the husband at lunchtime and I've decided to go and try and find some part-time work at last. Question is, as I'm now old enough to have a career but don't, how on earth do I go about asking in tiny little local shops if they've any part-time work available? What's the correct protocol? Anything I should in no circumstances whatsoever say? Do I need a CV? Because mine says I'm qualified and have experience to be a secretarial or administrative supervisor, which I have no desire at all to ever do again. (I have a lot of respect for CtD, and I hope Day 2 has been just as good!) I'm a tiny bit scared. Maybe it's a bit like going back into the dating game after so many years - j I'd offer advice if I knew any but I've been out of that game for some time now. Writing out letters and sending out CVs is one thing but walking brazenly into a shop is another...

Howya BigBump. Yes I did indeed hear it, it was impossible to avoid it; although if I'm brutally honest, whereas it's a typically Irish piss-take and therefore should be hilarious, I don't actually think it's that funny. It's one of those Trying Too Hard things, you know.

That's the thing about the Eurovision. What makes it funniest is that most of the entrants are so dreadfully kitsch and don't realise they're hilarious. Actively turning on the comedy in that context doesn't do it for me, I'm afraid.

Maybe it's me, maybe I've been spoiled by Podge & Rodge or maybe I'm a bit protective of our Tel and am a bit uncomfortable with that reference if you get my drift but no, I'm afraid it's Ireland Nil Points here.

But I'll still be watching the thing, behind me fingers, with the GBF in raptures and laughin' me socks off no doubt. And I hope you do, too, because it would be a bland world indeed without such marvellous eejits. Hurrah for them.

Thanks guys for the support. Mr Nasty came in to the office for a chat before I left work on Monday. He said that he hadn't been wrong and I told him that I was easily intimidated. He then told me that I have an 'air of a victim' about me. Great. But he's right.

Not sure whether to leave and get a new job straight away or leave and be an 'at home mum' until little man starts full time in September.

Then boss comes in this morning being nice and I feel guilty for wanting to leave. Bit like a bad marriage I suppose!

Jeni, my eldest was looking for part time work recently and every shop that he went in to asked him to drop a CV off. It may be a good idea to take some with you just in case. Hope you are feeling better today.

Better get on with some work

I can't believe I slept through the quake! All my friends up in Manchester have statuses reflecting the fact that their whole households were up bleary eyed making a brew afterwards, some terrified, some bewildered, and then some others who also managed to sleep right through and are upset to have missed it. Maybe down here near the south coast we are just too far away for it to feel like a juggernaut outside the house although I'm quite glad about that because I have my doubts as to whether this old cottage would have survived intact!

I do remember the last time I felt an earthquake, that was back when I was living in Manchester although I don't remember how long ago it was. Few years ago (just checked, twas Sept 2002). Felt like some invisible giant had just run through the house. Weird.

Desk is still tidy although the clutter is slowly invading.

Happy Hump Day all, downhill all the way to Friday now. Hurrah!
