MY GOODNESS ME, I THINK I HAVE IT.

Chris Evans | 09:38 UK time, Thursday, 16 November 2006

Listening to Sir Tel at the peak of his powers at the moment. It鈥檚 such a pleasure to know him and be a colleague of his. Come a-foraging in the country with us, all in aid of CHILDREN IN NEED ! Ha ha. Listen to tonight鈥檚 show for a surprise bonus item and a good time guaranteed.

Now last night I had a thought鈥

鈥ow about every year focusing on one country ? You pick a country every year until you die and your whole year is focused towards getting to know that country. Every holiday you take that year is in that country, you learn the language from January onwards, you learn to cook the food, everything !

I was talking to a lovely Spanish lady last night and as she regaled me with tales of her homeland, I began to think there鈥檚 so much to see in every nation, if you flip from one country to the next you鈥檒l never learn anything, so from Jan 1 next year I think I鈥檓 going to give this ruse a bash and what country am I going to start with ?

How about Costa Rica ? I鈥檝e heard it鈥檚 amazing.

Thirty countries in thirty years, wouldn鈥檛 that be fab ?

What about the rolling pin on last night鈥檚 show, what a laugh ! Went out with JOHNNY SPORTS last night for a beer, he鈥檚 so funny, such a good guy. We were discussing how lucky we were and that these were indeed halcyon days. When I worked on the Big Breakfast, I remember thinking the exact same thing, I remember it as if it were yesterday, it鈥檚 the greatest feeling.

I hope in some way at some time, you have felt, are feeling right now, or will feel in the future, the same way. If it all ended tomorrow, I鈥檝e had much more than my fare share, I鈥檓 very grateful.

So, what of the week, I think from now on I鈥檓 going to use Thursdays as a day to comment on your posts, so here goes鈥

鈥淚鈥檓 a Celebrity鈥 is terrible and I don鈥檛 care what you say, watching it is a waste of a good hour of a human beings life. I love the fact that it鈥檚 obvious a few of you do indeed indulge and don鈥檛 quite know how to defend your actions. It鈥檚 as if the spectre of the jungle has grabbed hold of your debating powers and strangled them along with your good taste. Of course it鈥檚 each to their own, I鈥檓 the first to subscribe to such a philosophy, if you wan to televisually lobotomise yourself go ahead, fill your boots. And, by the way just for the record, I love Ant and Dec, I think they are the nuts.

When I mentioned having a ciggie on Monday night, some of you were shocked. I hardly ever smoke but when I do, I thoroughly enjoy it. I really am one of those people who can have the odd fag every now and again. The thing is I鈥檓 such a cigarette inverted snob, if I see someone smoking in the street in the day or first thing in the morning over a cup of tea I鈥檓 disgusted, if I smell smoke on someone I can鈥檛 bare it. What a hypocrite ? My pub is totally non-smoking even !

It鈥檚 great the way you all support each other, it sometimes gets a little too cute but far better that than the other way. We have to overcompensate I suppose to stand any chance of redressing the balance.

Gonna read a bit more and I鈥檒l be back in a bit.

Roger Royle and Ken Bruce on a ship together, 鈥渉ello sailors, ooh ooh,鈥 you couldn鈥檛 make it up, ha ha !

Why dont you do a county every week? Yes stay in the good old British isles- I bet youve never been to swansea and the Gower- it is one of the most gorgeous places on earth.

Heard you last night having hysterics on the radio. Why is laughter so infectious. I almost wet myself and when I looked in the mirror the person in the car behind me was laughing at the wheel. Had very stressful day yesterday and it was very theraputic to have a belly laugh. More of the same please!

good comments christophe - I could only manage an 拢8K bid for your foraging weekend so was way off the mark - ho hum. I missed out on the rolling pin too but never mind.

I also think the bloggers get a bit to cute - hence my lack of blogs recently - I am lucky to have friends and family to love and cherish so dont feel the need to get super cosy with bloggers.

That said love and luck to you all but take time to love the people around you too! Too much time blogging can almost be like watching I'm a celebrity - get out and live a little, raise some money for children in need and perhaps explore Costa Rica?!

Enjoy the rain people - makes you feel alive (even if you are a little bit soggy by the time you get to work!)

Love the show, keep up the good work, I may even ignore Eamonn tonight and listen at home, have to hear David Cassidy (sad I know)

A country a year? What a fabulous idea!

I think 2007 will have to be spain for me then. I've never been there and we've already booked a 10 bed villa in the mountains for 2 weeks in October. The whole Clan is going to meet up to celbrate my parents ruby wedding anniversary. We figured it could be the last time we all get to go away together (we're spread all over the world so it's not easy).

Must dash, need to order a Spanish dictionary!

    Have a great day everybody.

Morning Chris, I like what you say regarding visiting one country lots of times in one given year. I did something similar but different back in 2001.

I decided that I would visit somewhere (in some cases just for a day!) during each of the twelve months. I had an Easter weekend in Edinburgh, a day trip to Iceland which included a dip in the Blue Lagoon - fab!, five days in Cape Town, a jaunt to London etc etc. By the time December came round I'd had enough of going somewhere each month and became a stay at home for the first four months of 2002 - recharging my batteries (oh & my bank balance!). Goes to prove that you can get too much of a good thing.

I've been away on holidays always with others this year and am itching to go somewhere solo - think I'll get something sorted shortly and get away before Christmas. I wish I had done the Jason Vale Turkey hol - Sal certainly seemed to enjoy herself - perhaps another time.

Keep juicing and happy blogging fellow bloggers.

As for Celebrity - I managed about 10 minutes last night and I'm afraid thats it for me for the series...life is too short to watch strange men in transparent plastic trousers dancing to the Jacksons!!

    Good morning Chris

Heard you on Terry's show this morning - you sounded very awake and alive! Your foraging sounds great and I missed who bought it as I had to go into work. I usually sit in my car until about 10 to 9 so I hear all but the last half hour of Wogan.

Surprised to find only one blog on this morning, hence my efforts.

Had lots of halcyon days, am experiencing more at the moment and I count my blessings every day.

Good idea about picking a country to focus on for a year, but I'm not sure I'd have the staying power to contiune throughout the year - I have a low boredam threshold!

Hopefully hear who bought your 'gig' on the show tonight and also the surprise - don't mention it till after 5.30 or I'll miss it!!

Hope all is well with you this morning, Charley is quite happy with himself at themoment and is enjoying a few milky drinks to help him stay comfortable (it comforts us more than him I think!). It was lovely to here you on the radio this morning Christoph. It reminded me of your Radio 1 days, I think I was awake for the start of your first show on the beeb, something in my head says that your first song was wake up boo by the boo radleys - I hope I'm right (I'm female, of course I am!).

I was really amazed to see that the Eurovision prize went for more money than the Elton John/New York trip yesterday morning on TW's auction - What a nation we have become!

I think when you say it all becomes too cute (the whole supporting thing) I think you have to remember that when you are conversing through the written (or in this case tyoed) word it can be difficult to convey a message without it sounding
    a) insincere
    b) over the top.

It's very different to strike a balance between the two and you're right about it being preferential to be over cute that under.

As for Get me out of here - too many snakes for my liking. Last night I watched the 麻豆社 Herald of Free Enterprise programme and found myself with tear running down my face at the end. Very moving programme.

Love, Cuddles and blown kisses to you all, comfort to those in need and strength to those who require it (Is that too cute???)

Re Halcyon days, I think they come in all shapes and sizes, I used to have a fantastic job in film & TV, I was so happy I diddn't realise it was wrecking the relationship I was in.

Both finished, very unhalcyon days for a time.

Got job as a carer, visiting old and disabled peeps in thier homes, helping them wash, eat and dress etc. very hard work, virtually no wages, BUT BOY did it make you feel good, I was actually helping people, I swear some of them were younger after a few months if you know what I mean? Very halcyon feeling.

Then had to leave that, as financially I was a mess. Got new job, it's OK but no great shakes
    (Unhalcyoness continues)

Then like a bolt from the blue, I meet Georgeous Guy, we have been together for about four years, it still makes me giddy to think about him......................ooo sorry, stop those thoughts at once.

So I am back having the most halcyon of halcyonness, broke but soooo happy.

Sorry all if those goes on a bit, I think my blog is now too big to tell of my strange nocturnal naked wanderings (no cheese required)

Another good morning bloggers and schloggers,

As I type this I see a day foraging with Mr E has gone for 拢33,000 :-) All very good for charity mate but I can think of better ways to spend that kind of money if I had it. I fact as I listen to Sir Terry I have to wonder why do people do it! Do some people have more money than sense?

If I was rich (not just in love) I would give money to good causes but I would like to be rich and anonymous and not rich and famous. Mind you it is a good job I am not a betting man as I would have won a lot of tenners from yesterday :-))

I like the holiday idea, of course if money was no option I would travel the world.

Chris I agree with 鈥淚 am a Celebrity鈥 what utter rubbish!!

I do not smoke (since 1988 anyway) and I kept out of the debate the other day as I would need a very big/strong soap box to stand on. I do not care if people want to smoke but why in my face? I am happy to move away from a smoker and would go to your pub (non smoking) before going into a smoking one鈥..that is choice :-)

P.S. Here you go another little titter for you ;-)

A man is driving along the motorway with his wife in the passenger seat. During the drive, the wife gets an idea. She starts taking off her clothing piece by piece and tossing them out the window.

The guy is shocked but aroused. She gets her shoes, socks, etc. and chucks them out. Finally, she whips her underwear off and throws it all out onto the motorway. The guy is laughing and leering at her. He looses control of the car in the process and crashes into a barrier at the side.

Unfortunately, the air-bag doesn't go off on his side, and he finds himself wedged in under the steering wheel. "Help, go get help......aggghhhh, I'm stuck", he shouts.

"But I have no clothes on. What'll I do ?", she screams.

"Here", he says wiggling his foot, "Take my shoe and put it over your crotch. It'll have to do, love. Quick, hurry!"

She takes the shoe off his foot and places it over her crotch and gets out of the car, limping and shouting for help. After a few hundred yards of yelling and running a trucker notices this naked hysterical woman holding a shoe over her crotch, and pulls over.

"What's seems to be the trouble?", he asks.

"Help me", she screams, "My husband is stuck".

The trucker says "If that is his shoe I'm afraid I can't help him."

Y'know Chris, since some of your comments on earlier blogs I've thought that you would love Sweden and should definitely try it one year (maybe you already have in which case feel free to jump to next entry!). And here's why - Saunas come as standard in most homes, herring is a national dish, there is an "all man's land" rule so you can swim in any lake, walk in any forest you fancy, the people are funny in an understated way with silly customs such as cray fish parties in August (lots of silly songs and knocking back schnapps), the roads are virtually traffic free, no such thing as rush hour even in the big cities (at least that's what it feels like compared to here), there is loads of (accessible) history - viking runes just there, in forests, without some commercial operation charging entrance fees and flogging hot dogs and ice cream, they bury their kings in provincial churches!!. They have mooses! It's just great, just wish I could find someone to teach me the language..... (my mum didn't bother!) There you go, maybe one for 2008 eh?! x

I agree also Chris with the sentiments of IACGMOOH. My hubbie went off to Holland around lunch time to watch the footie, I can hand on heart say the T.V. hasn't been on since 12.30 pm Tues when he went, it's lovely and peaceful without all that noise thats so distracting. I've had a couple of days off and taken the time just to do what I want without having to consider anyone else. Your enthusiasm for just about everything makes me wish I could be the same! However, I'm sorry, I really don't want to go to a different country every year (even if I could afford it). I would love to see Italy (all of it) and America (again, all of it). Languages? No chance, I just don't have the patience! But I do believe you are capable of doing 30 countries in the next 30 years, so have a wonderful time, o.k?!

My halcyon days were around 1987 when my husband and I were child-free and could just suit ourselves. We had wonderful holidays, out for dinner every Saturday night and really no worries. I remember playing "Never Gonna Give You Up" constantly! The joy of being young! (Incidentally, I want that song played at my funeral. That, and Jerusalem). But I digress. Yes, I think I've had a pretty good time so far. I just wish I had written "Merry Christmas Everybody" - that would have been sweet as a nut!

Two exciting things happened today, vis a vis the book and it's charitable intentions. First, I recieved a hardcopy (picture on my blog) of the book itself. Second, Dr Mark Booth from the University of Cambridge sent me a short video in which he clearly, and unequivocally, endorses my efforts. This means something to me, as oftentimes I feel ostracised from the scientific community on account of an episode I call 'My Eternal Shame'

CIN? I love the idea, but I hate listening to the auctions as I can never really justify the expense (or, come on lets be honest, afford it). One thing I have done is to work on the call centre last year and the year before and found that so much more rewarding than putting a few quid in.

IACGMOOH - Some people love it, some don't. It's as simple as. I don't watch it, my wife does - doesn't make her any less of a better person than me or any us bloggers. Each to their one I say and if we were all the same the world would be a duller place.

Re studying a country - sounds like a good idea but you'll need something to compare with, and that's where it would get difficult because very few of us know much about our own country. Still it's something good to aim for.

Personally I shy away from going anwhere that I have to speak a foreign language or where I can't recognise the food on my plate when I'm eating.

You may think I'm lazy but that's what I'm like, take it or leave it. It hasn't restricted me in any way and I've been to some really interesting places.

Re I'm a Celebrity - The first question is "are they?" - I don't think so. Anyway, I've never been able to watch that programme or any of the Big Brothers for more than avbout 5 minutes. They must sit in some sort of blind spot for me but I find making a cup of tea or reading the phone book more interesting.

Re Smoking - I have never smoked and can't even bear to touch a cigarette. If my mum, who has smoked for 60 years, ever asks me to pass her a cigarette I have to give her the packet. I keep telling her they'll stunt her growth!

Both my sons smoke but never where I can see them and never in our house. The only person who ever smokes in my house is Mum, and when she goes the air freshener comes out, pronto. Them's the rules.

Now I'm off for my favourite lunch - double egg and chips - runny yolks - and fresh bread and butter. Make chip butties and dip them in the yolks.

Gotta go - I've started to drool!

I couldn't agree with you more about 'I'm a Celebrity...' The concept felt quite fresh to begin with but now - like Big Brother - it seems the barrel is being scraped a little bit too hard. Whatsmore, I can't stand how they treat the animals they chuck at people and it sets such a bad example, particularly to impressionable kids. Be they fish, gators or snakes, they are still sentient beings and not just props to be discarded and trodden into the mud once they've 'done their bit'. I'm sure rules are being broken, rules which they're very strict about in dramas and feature films.

I love your show Chris and must admit that I used to think you were a bit ladish for my taste. But having heard you on Desert Island Disks, I'm now a total convert and think you're brilliant!

I've no idea why that particular combo "gets" me. It just does. I'll get over it, the same way I did my "good grief" at hearing a woman swear.

If you think "I'm a ........." is bad, I have to admit to a further shame. Week b4 last I was at a pal's in Glas instead of our "Citry Centre lunch" and he had to make a phone call. He left me watching the tail end of "Voyager" on SKY-1 and was followed afterwards something called "Cirque de Celebrite" By the time he'd done his quick call, boiled the kettle, shouted "won't be a moment, I'll just empty my wash whilst I'm here", I was engrossed. I couldn't BELIEVE I was watching it and WORSE, comparing notes in my head about how much better such and such a "Z-list" (as some snooze-papers refer to them) was better than the other at what task they had trained for (one or two were VERY good). "What are you WATCHING" I was asked. "Nothing" I replied without so much as a blush, "it came on and I thought it was rude to make use of your remote". I have Freeview and I noticed Monday night that Sunday night's live performance on SKY-1 which I hadn't seen was repeated on SKY-3. So.......... (I don't believe I'm admitting this)
I taped it. In my defence, I haven't watched it yet. I don't "do" reality stuff. But the grand final is next Sunday (repeated on Monday) and I will prob tape / watch. It's time to go to canteen for pre-ordered lunch. First I've got to look out a paper bag for my head so no-one recognises me......

Have to agree with you emma #14, re Sweden. We moved here in June following big life changes with the idea of living here. However the Government slapped on taxes on our nearest airport causing Ryanair to pull out. That was followed by DFDS pulling out their ferry services. That left us feeling stranded with no easy way of getting back to family and friends easily. So we will be moving back to the UK exactly a year after moving here. Family contact is so important.

But back to Sweden. I would also add to Emma's comments, the Swedes are usually very friendly and helpful. The forests are unbelievably full of funghi, so good foraging country. One difficulty is the language. I've never been good at languages. I would love to be able to converse in a foreign language. That's another benefit here, most people speak English and are very happy to practise on us.

It has been interesting living in another country and getting to know it in a more intimate way.

Well next year we will be living in a different county from our usual one. So all change again. We don't want to let the grass grow under our feet.

Been great catching up on all this week's comments.

I love your idea of getting to know a different country every year, it is brilliant and reminds me a little of a conversation I was having with some friends of mine in the pub (isn't that where all the best conversations are had!)

We were just cahtting about the normal stuff, work, tv etc.. when the conversation turned to a friends sudden interest in Jazz. This made us all think and we got to talking about how we just talk about the same things all the time - you know, sport, drinking, and awesome rock bands. Wouldn't our lives be more interesting if we were 'into' other stuff? Of course they would, by each person having a unique and interesting thing they were 'into' we could share our interests with the group and the group as a whole could learn and be enthused by each other.

It was a great conversation and we all went off to think about the thinks that realy float our boat, but that we do nothing about. For instance I love watching X-games, you know the snowboarding, BMX riding adrenaline sports thing, but I have never tried it. So we are planning a trip snowboarding for the group. After that we will go on another adventure to do with someone elses thing.

So what started as a 'we can change the world' kind of drunken pub conversation has actually turned out to be something really useful and cool. I am going to add the 'a country and year' idea and I will be brimming with knowledge and experience! Excellent.

Maybe the bloggers should all pick a country and we can share our thought and findings here!

Right I am off to pick a country!
    Thanks Chris

The only drawback is its very expensive - cheap to get to, but after that food, drinks well anything very pricey. That said I would love to go again in the winter, no daylight but see the Northern Lights fantastic!

I also have to kind of agree/disagree with lots of fellow bloggers re the cost of a country a year.
You don't have to visit the country oodles of times, but you can find out about loads of stuff about it without actually going there. So I say do your homework here whilst saving. Then go and have a really good well prepared visit.

Anyhoow, I love the country a year idea. My first holiday was a school trip to Austria. And my school, which was quite old fashioned, made us all do projects and research into the countries we were visiting. We had to stay behind at school at least once a week to do things like write essays, listen to talks on architecture and find out about the places we were visiting. At the time, we hated the fact that we were stuck in the classroom on our own time, but I really appreciate it now. I ended up with a big folder all about my trip with lots of photos and memories.

Now whenever I go anywhere, half the fun for me is in the planning. Next year me and my hubby are going to Japan. Can't wait! I'm already looking at the guide books, sorting out all the things we can do when we're there and thinking about the food we'll be eating (specially that!). I get some funny looks when I walk around the outside of my office on a lunchtime wearing my headphones and listening to my Japanese lessons though.

Our uniform was: White t-shirt, black shorts (the t-shirt had a picture of a santa and the Bernardo's logo on it), a santa hat, and a big red sack stuffed with teddy bears, all shapes and sizes.
I have many many great memories of that time, one of them being celebrating after selling my whole sack-ful of toys (about $400 worth) to a pub which was on my route. I celebrated by Doing a shotgun (you shake a can of beer, stick a hole in, hold your mouth over it, then pull the ring pull and all the beer shoots out in seconds!)by the side of the road, when my boss came past in the mini-bus.
He was about to go ballistic, when I showed him the money and the empty sack. When he saw that, he changed his mind, and bought the team dinner that night!
Also remember spending New Years eve on Bondi Beach, followed by a trip into Sydney to watch the fire works - wicked, wicked time!!!

    Afternoon Chris & Bloggers

It's been fun listening to the CIN auctions in the morning though like many of you I missed the end as had other commitments (tyre to get changed).

Halcyon days indeed. I'm pretty sure this is going to be a period of my life that I look back on and smile. It's been a rollercoaster of a year and I've met some great people. I wake in the morning glad to be me and walk the dogs with a spring in my step.

I've had my Dad's bad news to deal with but right now he's on great form and I'm really enjoying my time with him. He decided the other day that the hospital have got it wrong and he doesn't have cancer, it's probably something else... some would say "only kidding himself" I say "good on you Dad it's the power of positive thinking that'll make your life better".

I'm in the middle of the biggest thing ever to happen to me in my life as far as my work life is concerned and thoroughly enjoying it, because of it I'm travelling to some places I've never been and certainly mixing in circles that I could never have dreamed of. You never know when I'll be meeting up with you again Chrissy LP. I'd not really thought about it much but I guess the phrase would be.....This is my massive rollercoaster of a life and good greif Penfold I'm enjoying the ride!

Good morning from Vancouver and good afternoon to you all back in Blighty,

Sorry to be a bore but all this chat about Halcyon days threw me back to my years of academia and led me to offer the historic origins of the term "Halcyon Days"

From Latin Alcyone, daughter of Aeolus and wife of Ceyx.

When her husband died in a shipwreck, Alcyone threw herself into the sea whereupon the gods transformed them both into halcyon birds (kingfishers). When Alcyone made her nest on the beach, waves threatened to destroy it. Aeolus restrained his winds and made the waves be calm during seven days in each year, so she could lay her eggs.

These became known as the "halcyon days", when storms never occur...

I am enjoying mine and consider myself enormously fortunate.

Incidentally, I was reading a book the other day...The History of Glue...I couldn't put it down.

    Good day to you

I so enjoy when you do food or wine tasting - you bring a new experience and dimension to radio! I should admit that I didn't think I was going to like you. Unlike others I was not a follower of you on Radio 1. Anyway, that has taught me a powerful lesson about not judging people I don't really know. I'm sorry.

On 'Celebrity' - well I don't know why but I watched the last series - the Carol Thatcher one. I loved it and was completly hooked - I didn't miss a single programme. I'd never watched it before - couldn't be bothered with it. The funny thing is I can't bring myself to watch it this time. Don't know why!

Was Johnny Sports' beer instantly chilled last night when he swallowed? That cryogenics (spelling?) stuff was almost mind blowing in terms of the low temperatures he endured. I didn't think anyone could survive even a few minutes at that temperature.

Ok, gonna go - probably enough for my first ever blog. Thanks for being so positive, enthusiastic and interesting Chris - you make a difference.

An hour of laughs in a day that was otherwise fairly full of stress may well save me from a lobotomy. Im a great believer that the body craves the things it really needs and I think I may have a point here. Sometimes its about needing a laugh, sometimes its about needing a bit of escapeism. Focussing in on other peoples lives, watching other people solve problems and overcome fears takes us away from our own troubles. I think there is more to this than the quality of the production... there must be. There is a lost of bad quality TV being watched out there. Something creates the market.

Morning Chris - one of the best ways to get into a country is to get into its music. It's a great in-road into culture, stories, myths, tradition and people. Saturday night I'm heading off to the Purcell Rooms on the South Bank to listen to some World Music from Madagascar & Cape Verde. Always thought it would be a bit 'plink plink' but the harmonies are amazing. Last year it was Sumatra & Senegal. The band came from Lake Toba and were described as the 'Indonesian Beach Boys' - their musical talent was amazing, yet they had never had a lesson in their life. How can you just pick up a guitar & play, with no book or anything? Now we just send them instruments (we gave them a banjo) they'd never seen one before but just incorporated it into their music - fab!!! How cool is that?

Considering my music tastes go from Rolling Stones, Van the man, Springsteen to Missy Higgins.....I still find it a great experience. Plus, at such small venues, you get to talk to the artistes & they're so proud of their culture and music that they want to tell you as much as they can.

So, there you go - another open door into another country.

A teacher noticed that a little boy at the back of the class was squirming around, scratching his crotch, and not paying attention. She went back to find out what was going on. He was quite embarrassed and whispered that he had just recently been circumcised and he was quite itchy.

The teacher told him to go down to the head teacher鈥檚 office. He was to telephone his mother and ask her what he should do about it. He did it and returned to his class. Suddenly, there was a commotion at the back of the room. She went back to investigate only to find him sitting at his desk with his penis hanging out.

"I thought I told you to call your Mum!" she said. "I did," he said, "and she told me that if I could stick it out till noon, she'd come and pick me up"

Off for a swim now (indoors!). Hope our esteemed Blog Chief and Master Forager-and-Chef isn't playing golf today, it's so cold and windy. I imagine he's fully occupied with Children in Need day.

Must try the home-made pasta tonight. Sounds so easy and yummy, but may not turn out that way here. Have any of you tried it DIY yet?

    Hugs and stuff (( :) xx )) - Jill

    Morning

    Where is Mr E today???

What an inspired idea, auctioning tables was last night. I did bid but obviously not enough.
I bid as much as I could possibly spare too so I was a little disappointed, but its all in a good cause and as long as CIN gets as much money as possible, then I'll have to save up for next year :D

Cat, I don't know you and I don't normally read all the posts but I'm very pleased that you are ok.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Putting ANYTHING on against Children in Need is out of order...like the party political broadcasts, I think ALL channels should show the same thing together.

Think about what COULD be achieved is we ALL gave a bit...there are over 60 MILLION men womena dn children in this country...if everyone gave the equivalent of only 拢1 for each living person, then we could together raise over 拢60 million in one hit....and yet you see corporate cheques for tens or hundreds of thousands and the total is still "only" 30, 40, 50 million ...so who are all the people out there who haven't chipped in? Why not? We can ALL spare 拢1 per head...surely?

Do it. Give something. Anything. It all adds up. Please.

Ken Bruce needn't worry - I survived 4 weeks at sea with Roger Royle in 1968 - he was chaplain on the Castel Felice our migrant ship to Oz. Roger took charge of ship's entertainment and made crazy announcements every day at 12 finishing with the rousing cry "Every day is fun-packed when you are AT SEA WITH SITMAR" Maybe he will reprise his role as Nero on Fancy Dress Night draped in girls and grapes!!! Cunard you have been warned...

If you have never been to Costa Rica, you must go! It is a country that is so fantastic that everyone should try it. I went in 2001, you have a land which has a capital city in the clouds, the air is so clean that it is unbelievable, intel make computer chips there because it is so clean. The climate at the top of the mountain is perfect, drop down and see the coffee plantations, further and you will reach the coasts with their banana and pineapple plantations. White water rafting and rainforest expiditions are all there. believe me, if there is one place on earth that has it all, Costa Rica is it!!!
