A lesson about the importance of bike maintenance. Presenter Steph cycles along until her faulty bike brings her to a stop. Luckily a bike instructor is on hand and explains how to keep it working. The instructor advises on the importance of oiling the chain, checking the brakes and putting air in the tyres.

Students could be asked to recap the checks that the cycling instructor says are necessary before riding a bike. Students could turn this into a checklist and add pictures to remind them what to do each time. A bike could be brought into the classroom, or students could bring their own bikes in and watch a demonstration of how to carry out each of these checks, then try it out for themselves. Students could take a note of the issues they discover, and write a letter home to their parents or carers asking them to help fix them.
