Jim Wallis: Rediscovering Values

Last updated: 28 November 2010

Roy Jenkins' guest this week is a man who was arrested over 20 times for a range of protests in his younger days, and is now one of America's best known religious commentators.

Jim Wallis, author, speaker and social activist is the founder of Sojourners, a radical Christian community with its base a few blocks from the White House in Washington. Their magazine, which he's edited for thirty years, has an international readership, and analyses the intersection of faith, politics and culture; and his latest book, does exactly that. Written during the worst recession since the great depression "Rediscovering Values" challenges readers to rethink the connection between morality, biblical teachings and government policies.

In this conversation he talks about how and why he believes the economic crisis offers an opportunity for transformation; his disagreements with George W. Bush and Tony Blair; and how Christianity in America is often mixed up with culture and nationalism.

"All Things Considered" is broadcast on Sunday, 28 November at 9.00 am and repeated on Thursday 2 December at 5.30 am.
