"We're all in this together" - the slogan has been hammered home every day since the Chancellor's Comprehensive Spending Review. And every day, it seems, some group insists that they, or the people they represent, are sharing rather more of the pain than they deserve.

Churches and other faith-based groups have shouted loudly. "Welfare cuts will cause misery and hardship for the poorest and most vulnerable", says one. "Britain is being made a cold place for families", insists another. They've welcomed the protection of overseas aid, but that's put them out of step with furious critics who reckon charity begins at home, and if necessary ends there too.

Roy Jenkins and guests ask whether there are important religious insights to be brought to the debate and to what extent faith communities are in a position to make a difference to those who might be worst hit.
