All Things Considered: Camila Batmanghelidjh

Camila Batmanghelidjh

On 'All Things Considered' this week (Sunday 29 March at 8.30 AM, repeated Wednesday 1 April at 6.30 PM), Roy Jenkins' guest is Camila Batmanghelidjh, the inspirational founder and director of Kids' Company, which for more than a decade has cared for some of London's most vulnerable children.

Camila Batmanghelidjh has been described as 'the angel of Peckham', and 'Britain's most colourful charity leader'. She has found patrons in high places, but she's never shrunk from fierce criticism of systems which she sees as damaging those who are already deprived.

Her passion for young people who are often feared and denounced is infectious. Starting from a base in six converted railway arches, she has recruited a team of more than three hundred paid specialists, and several thousand volunteers - and she has twice re-mortgaged her flat to see Kids' Company through financial crises.
