The End of the Anglican family?
This week, Roy Jenkins and a panel of guests look at the likely implications of the decision by the Church of England on women bishops, and ask whether the sun is finally setting on Anglicanism as a global family.
Bishops from the Church in Wales say they want the ten-yearly Lambeth Conference starting this week to focus on environmental issues, rather than sexuality. It seems a somewhat forlorn hope. Many bishops are boycotting the worldwide gathering because of the consecration of the homosexual Gene Robinson in the United States and a rival conservative event in Jerusalem last month claimed it represents the majority of the world's practising Anglicans. The future of the planet might well be discussed at Lambeth, but it's the future of the Anglican Communion which will be engaging minds and attracting headlines.
And now that the , which have angered many traditionalists, there will be more talk of division.
From London Roy is joined by leading Anglo Catholic spokesman Prebendary David Holding and by one of the organisers of that Jerusalem conference, Canon Dr Chris Sugden, executive director of Anglican Mainstream. And also with him are the Rev Jenny Wigley, one of the first women to be ordained priest in Wales; and the Archbishop of Wales, the Most Rev. Dr Barry Morgan.
