Professor John Harper

In All Things Considered on Sunday 5 August at 8.30am (repeated Wednesday 8 August at 6.32pm), Roy Jenkins' guest is a man with a lifelong passion for sacred music.

Professor John Harper steps down at the end of the year after a decade as director general of the Royal School of Church Music. His journey through faith and music has taken him from the life of a chorister in the world-renowned Kings College Choir, to a distinguished academic career.

He's also a composer, and has written widely on worship and liturgy. In this programme he talks about the work of the , now in its 80th year, the place of traditional and contemporary church music in the 21st century and of how the experience of living on Anglesey has had deep impact on his faith and his understandings of the relationship between music, tradition and worship.
