England's Meeta Raval performs Sola, perduta, abbandonata from Puccini's Manon Lescaut, in the final of the 2011 Â鶹Éç Cardiff Singer of the World competition.

Last updated: 19 June 2011

Manon is dying of thirst and exhaustion in the Louisiana desert, where she has been deported. Her lover Des Grieux has gone in search of water, and she laments her fate 'alone, lost, abandoned'. A few moments after his empty-handed return, she sings with her last breath that her love will never die.
