"Writing rock music from the heart." Dorian celebrates life with his rock band.

Transcript

"There have been a few bands before this one, but I feel that Souldriver is the one I've connected with the most. From seeing the band live a few times and playing with them with my first band in local pubs, I quickly became a fan.

You don't know how happy I was when they asked me to join full-time as the bassist!

They'd been around for about a year previous to me joining and had never changed members - so you can imagine I felt quite intimidated joining what seemed to be such a close unit. But within a month I felt totally at ease with Wayne, Hicksey, Pricey and of course Steve, who, at first I thought was totally crazy, and now a year later know is totally crazy.

The band are considered to be 'retro-indie rock' but I can still hear the influences of my favourite bands - bands who wrote music from the heart, which is all I've ever wanted to do.

I think that people like me tend to associate a song they cherish with a particular moment that is significant to them. That's why I suppose it's so strange when people commend us on a song we have written like 'On My Knees' and say that it has moved them in a special way. All we are doing is write songs and music that feels natural to us.

My one complaint though, is that over the last year I've played on numerous small, cramped stages with the boys, who are often quite sweaty. I'm still threatening to buy them all a can of deodorant!"

An interview with the author

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I'm 17 and live with my mother, father and brother. I also have quite a large family who all live nearby. My interests, apart from reading, are music; I play guitar and bass guitar and I'm currently in a band called Souldriver.

What is your story about?
It's about my band and the story of four young men who love making music.
