Salford Red Devils scored six second-half tries as they thrashed Wakefield to move above them in Super League.

Junior Sa'u's try out wide was the highlight of a low-key first half, which saw home half-back Robert Lui forced off through injury.

Wakefield had Reece Lyne sin-binned and Tyrone McCarthy and Ryan Lannon crossed before Joe Arundel pulled a try back.

But Jake Bibby went over twice, with George Griffin and Greg Johnson also scoring as Salford ran riot late on.

Victory moves Ian Watson's side up to seventh on points difference, though they have played a game more than Wakefield.

Salford's kicking suffered after Lui's departure, with only three of their seven tries converted as McCarthy and Jack Littlejohn shared the duties.

The yellow card for Lyne, for holding down Niall Evalds, opened the floodgates for the home side as they went on to add four scores in the final 23 minutes.

Salford head coach Ian Watson told 麻豆社 Radio Manchester:

"That was outstanding for us - to be fair for the amount of adversity we've faced it just shows the true spirit in the camp. I'd say that's probably one of our best performances in the past three years.

"I don't think there was a bad player out there - I think everyone did their job and everyone nailed it.

"The defence and the character impressed me - the strength of the group really to face a bit of adversity and come out the other side and not let it disrupt us or take away from our game plan."

Wakefield head coach Chris Chester told 麻豆社 Radio Leeds:

"I'm really disappointed - that's probably the worst performance I've seen from a Wakefield side for a long, long time.

"I thought we got a good lesson tonight on how to do the little things well - I thought defensively they were very good as well.

"We offered nothing and we had too many guys in the squad that waved the white flag, I thought.

"From minute one to minute 80 we were all over the shop."
