Well, that was a bit of a shame. This double-header between London Spirit and Southern Brave has been marred by the rain.

We did get a result in the 85-ball women's game as Maia Bouchier powered Brave to a win...

...but the men's match fell to the weather in the first innings.

But never fear, we're back tomorrow with four games. Trent Rockets host Northern Superchargers at 11:30 BST in the women's competition, before the men's sides get going at 15:00 BST.

At the same time, the Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals women's sides will be starting in south London, with the men's sides finishing us off at 18:30 BST.

The forecast is set fair in both London and Nottingham (honest!) so there's a lot of cricket in store.

    Have a good evening.

But Spirit fought back, as Liam Dawson had Finn Allen caught off his bowling...

And followed that up by smashing Matt Critchley for a massive six.

Before we go, let's enjoy some of the action we did get during the brief resumption.

James Vince started with a pulled four off Jordan Thompson.

The umpires are shaking hands with the groundsman. That's that, I'm afraid.

Both teams get one point for a no result.

The sheets for the outer pitches are being walked on and the rain seems to be coming down harder now.

I wouldn't hold out much hope, folks.

For the record, play needs to resume by 21:12 BST for a 25-ball game.

The umpires have stayed out on the pitch under their umbrellas.

They're obviously keen to get the match on, but the elements may be conspiring against them.

That sound of the hover cover? I hate it, I have always hated it and I have never said otherwise.

  11. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 8 August 2023

And new batter Leus du Plooy doesn't get to face a delivery as the rain is coming down again and the players are walking off.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 26 balls

    Vince c Dawson b Mitchell 19 (Brave 34-3)

    And now Vince goes!

Another new bowler in Daryl Mitchell and the Brave captain spoons his first ball into a gap into the covers. His great mate Liam Dawson runs round from mid-off and gleefully takes a diving catch.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 24 balls

    Allen c Crawley b Dawson 13 (Brave 33-2)

Liam Dawson is into the attack and he has a wicket!

The veteran spinner sends one wide of off and Finn Allen chases the delivery. He's reaching far outside his stumps and doesn't hit the ball cleanly, succeeding only in finding Zak Crawley in the deep.

Tim David is the next man in, promoted up the order in this shortened match.

  14. How's stat?!published at 20:31 British Summer Time 8 August 2023

You would not believe it looking at that shot, but James Vince has a poor record against Matt Critchley in T20 cricket, with five dismissals in six innings against the leg-spinner.

  15. 6 runs

    Brave 31-1published at 20 balls

Stand and deliver from James Vince - dispatching Critchley majestically between mid-wicket and long-on for six.

We had four singles on either side of that maximum.

  16. Brave 21-1published at 15 balls

Vince and Finn Allen exchanges singles.

Spirit are going to introduce spin for the first time with Matt Critchley. The ball is going to be damp from the outfield, and the leggie has a towel tucked into his waistband for that purpose.

  17. Brave 19-1published at 13 balls

James Vince wastes no time getting us going, hitting Jordan Thompson consecutive fours. He pulls to the ropes behind square before offering up a sumptuous shot through the covers while lifting himself up on his toes.

That's the end of the powerplay.

The players are back out and we're being treated to a second countdown.

We're reading to go after about 90 minutes off the field.

  19. Play to resume at 20:25 BSTpublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 8 August 2023

We're going to get back underway!

And we have our match conditions. Each side will play a 50-ball innings, with bowlers limited to two sets each (so Dan Worrall, who was so impressive opening the bowling, is already done for the day).

The powerplay will last 13 balls.

Ah, the sweetest sound on earth, the low hum of the hover cover making its way off the field.

Of course, it's the exactly same sound when it comes onto the field, but let's not complicate this.
