Major shareholder Dermot Desmond believes Celtic have done "exceptionally well" in the early weeks of the current campaign.

A dramatic late win at Ross County on Sunday stretched their winning league start to seven games, with a League Cup semi-final to come next month.

Desmond, who was playing at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, said a chastening 7-1 Champions League defeat by Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday was unfortunate, but the Irishman said "it was important" Celtic responded.

"I am very pleased," he told 麻豆社 Scotland.

"I think we have played good football. We had a good start and could have played bad football, but we have played very good and exciting football.

鈥淯nfortunately we weren't at our best on Tuesday, but I like what we are doing, what Brendan is doing and I think we have a good squad."

While Rodgers and his side will be looking to retain their top-flight crown and claim both domestic cups, European progression is also an aim.

Despite the humiliation in Dortmund, Celtic still have three points from their opening two games after thrashing Slovan Bratislava in their opening fixture.

Asked what his hopes are for the remainder of the Champions League campaign, Desmond added: "I would like to see some good results, home results and maybe nick a point or two away.

"I think we have done exceptionally well so far. It's interesting to play eight different teams, four at home and four away with all different rankings.

"I think it makes it exciting for the club, the supporters and people generally."
