What is a SPOC?

The Â鶹Éç encourages all projects, broadcasts and productions to identify a named person from the production team who will act as the SPOC (Safeguarding Point of Contact). The SPOC is responsible for:

• Promoting a culture of safeguarding across the production/event

• Receiving any safeguarding concerns from crew, cast, parents etc

• Maintaining accurate safeguarding records, including a log of received concerns

• Escalating safeguarding concerns in line with Â鶹Éç Safeguarding requirements

 

Who Can Be a SPOC?

You certainly do not need to be a safeguarding expert to take on the SPOC role, but you do need to:

• Be aware of your organisation’s safeguarding policy and procedures, if different to the Â鶹Éç

• Be available to locally manage any safeguarding issues on production

• Be contactable via email/phone and present in studio/location during identified hours

• Hold a suitable, in-date Criminal Record Check (such as a DBS or PVG)

• Have undertaken safeguarding training, such as:

   - Â鶹Éç Staff/Freelancers: Â鶹Éç Safeguarding Advanced Training (available on Â鶹Éç Academy)

   - Indies / Third Parties: A relevant safeguarding course such as

What Support is Available?

We know this may be the first time you are taking on the SPOC role. The Â鶹Éç offer a range of support and with appropriate organisations to ensure you can effectively fulfil your role:

• Â鶹Éç SPOC Peer Support Group - monthly online meetings from April to August. If you are interested in being added to the group, email the Â鶹Éç Safeguarding Team

• Â鶹Éç / Â鶹Éç Studios staff can speak to a Working With Children Advisor for general support

• The has extensive information regarding Child Performance Licensing and employment

How To Report A Concern

If you have a non-urgent safeguarding concern about a child, vulnerable adult or a person behaving inappropriately towards a child, please use one of the following methods to contact the Â鶹Éç Safeguarding Team:

  • Email the Â鶹Éç Safeguarding Team (Office hours only; Mon-Fri 0900-1700hrs unless by prior arrangement)
  • Indies / Third Parties should contact their Â鶹Éç Commissioner / Exec
