Why are we so keen to pass on false health warnings?

Date rape drugs that make you sterile,Ìýtampons that contain asbestos, deodorants that cause cancer - these are just three of the stories flying from in-box to in-box as concerned women e-mail their friends with warnings about potential health threats.

Luckily, all of these are hoaxes,Ìýbut why are we so keen to pass this kind of information on, and who makes up these tales of doom anyway?
