Ìý Katie Melua 16 Mar 2004 Ìý
kate melua
Six months ago, you probably hadn't heard of Katie Melua but now her debut album Call off the Search has gone quadruple platinum - that's more than a million copies sold since it was released in November.

It's a mix of songs written by Katie and former Womble Mike Batt, as well as old jazz standards. And it's a word of mouth success. She was signed to an independent label, but her first single was championed by DJs like Terry Wogan and Michael Parkinson.

Katie joins Jenni to talk about her success and sings the song that made her name Closest Thing to Crazy .

Katie Melua is currently touring the UK - she's at Shepherds Bush Empire tonight, Regent Theatre Ipswich tomorrow and the Fairfield Hall in Croydon on Thursday.
