Ìý The West Indian Front Room Thursday 30 October 2003 Ìý
Many of us grew up with a front room that was kept for best. It was the place where the most valuable objects in the house were displayed and where family life put on its best show for the outside world.

Now artist Michael McMillan has borrowed his mum's ornaments to reconstruct his family's front room. He believes anybody with a West Indian background will feel at home in the space he has created. We follow him as he shows his mum for the first time what he's created using her prized possessions.
Jacqueline Roy, author and lecturer in English at Manchester University and furniture designer Angel Sweeney join Jenni to discuss whether the front room best represents women's hopes and aspirations for their family.
The West Indian Front Room exhibition can be seen at the Zion Arts Centre, Manchester until 31 October
