Ìý Do Women Need Periods Friday 21 February 2003 Ìý
A new version of the contraceptive pill, which will allow women to reduce their periods to once every three months, is currently undergoing trials and is expected to be available in the UK next year.

But is this what women actually want? Is it really the best thing for women to reduce or never have a period? Many traditional societies around the world still honour menstruation as a source of power and heightened creative energy.
Toni Belfield from the Family Plannning Association and Dr Marie Mulvey-Roberts of the University of the West of England join Martha to discuss the health and cultural implications of a period-free life.
