Ìý Suffragette Centenary Thursday 2 January 2003 Ìý
2003 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU). It was in 1903 that Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst, together with Annie Kenney, began their radical movement to fight for equal rights.

We talk to Baroness Shirley Williams, visit students from Manchester Girls Grammar School where the original Pankhurst girls were pupils and hear from women who took part in the campaign.
Author Melanie Phillips and Professor of Labour History, Mary Davis, join Jenni to discuss the revolutionary aims of the Suffragette Movement - where women took their protest onto the streets.
The Ascent of Woman: A History of the Suffrage Movement By: Melanie Phillips Published by: Little, Brown ISBN: 0316725331
