Ìý Gujarat Earthquake Friday 25 January 2002 Ìý
Last year, on 26 January, an earthquake hit the Indian state of Gujarat. Measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale, the quake devastated the Kutch region, killing 20,000 people - including hundreds of schoolchildren taking part in Republic Day parades. 50,000 people were injured and many thousands more lost their homes, possessions and livelihoods.

Four years earlier, Clare Jenkins had visited Kutch to report on its rich textile and embroidery traditions. She recently went back to find out how the women she had met then are coping in the aftermath of the tragedy.
