Ìý Women in prison Monday 3 December 2001 Ìý
There are now record numbers of women in prison in England and Wales, with numbers almost doubled in the last six years.

More than 500 foreign women are also in prison in the UK, serving long sentences for drug smuggling.
So why the increase and just how many girls aged between 15 and 17 are finding themselves serving time in an adult prison?
Could a change in sentencing be the reason or is it simply a change in women's behaviour?
Jenni investigates the issue of sentencing women with Jackie Lothian, Prison Development Officer at NACRO (National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders), and Olga Heaven, Director of Hibiscus, Female Prisoners Welfare Project.

Woman's Hour: Interview with Beverley Hughes MP, Minister for Prisons and Probation
