Why are surival rates for women in the UK worse than most European countries?
A recent study reported in the Annals of Oncology shows cancer survival rates for British women are lower than many other European countries. The report puts women in England, Wales and Scotland in the bottom 10 of 36 countries for cancer mortality, below countries like Bulgaria, Croatia and Russia. It also showed that deaths from lung and oesophageal cancer in British women were amongst the highest in Europe. Jane is joined by Ann Keen, Parliamentary Under Secretary for Health Services at the Department of Health, and cancer specialist Professor Karol Sikora, to discuss why cancer statistics in the UK are so poor for women.
