Vaira Vike-Freiberga 19 Nov 2009
Former Latvian leader’s bid to become EU’s first president.

Vaira Vike-Freiberga has challenged her male counterparts to an open contest to head the new post of President of Europe. The former Latvian President has spoken out about the apparent secrecy of the candidates saying that they should all declare themselves. She’s also been frustrated at the suggestion of token women in the EU and she’s not alone: on Wednesday a demonstration took place in Brussels calling for more women in top EU roles. The summit is tonight - but will they make a decision? Jenni speaks to Vaira Vike-Freiberga and Latvian Journalist, Sanita Jemberga.
