Last week it was reportedÌýthat during her first year in office, Mrs Thatcher had written out a diet consisting mainly of eggs; two for breakfast and two for lunch with a normal meal at dinner time. ÌýThis meant she was eating at least 28 eggs a week.ÌýBut how healthy is it to eat so many eggs? Undoubtedly they’re a very versatile and cheap food but they’ve had a bad press in recent years. To take aÌýlook at eggs, Edwina Currie talks about the salmonella scare and Mrs Thatcher’s egg diet and Jane is joined by nutritionist Kat McDonald and theÌýchef and food writer Sybil Kapoor, who will be cooking up some egg recipes.
