Social
Sexual Content in Music Videos 05ÌýDec 2008
Are music videos pushing the boundaries of sexual imagery too far?

Hilary Duff’s ‘Bondage video’ was censored after her suggestive licking of a male actor’s finger was considered too racy… Britney writhes naked in a sauna in her latest hit video…and in hip hop videos we see scenes perhaps more appropriate to porn films. Music videos which accompany the top-40 chart pop songs are watched by millions, on television and the net, and downloaded on i-phones, and i-pods, and they’re extremely popular, especially with teenagers. Of course not all videos are too explicitly sexual; there are some that children could watch quite innocently. But are music videos pushing the boundaries of sexual imagery too far, and how far is too far?
