Women's Prison Reform Update 02 Jul 2008
Has progress been made since the Corston Report?

It’s been 15 months since Baroness Corston’s review of Vulnerable Women in the Criminal Justice System was published. The Corston Report recommended a number of proposals to keep non violent women out of prison and rehabilitate them in the community. It also recommendedÌýserious and dangerous offendersÌýbe housed in smaller prisons. However, figures released this month reveal the women’s prison population reached a record high of 4,505 in June this year. So what recommendations has the government met and how far is it actually willing to go? Jenni is joined by the report author Baroness Corston and Juliet Lyon from the Prison Reform Trust.
