The Poignancy of Poinsettias
by Epponn-kneerae
A brief but thoughtful tribute to the much-missed Betty Tucker, from the Fantasy Archers topic of .
It's comin' on Christmas,
Poinsettias massing on supermarket shelves.
In her kitchen, the chair she seldom sat on
Has lost the yellow cushion that she loved;
The drawers she sorted
Rendered random
By others' hands.
Only teapot and caddy
Live on in her appointed places.
Outside, in December's cold,
The brave little apple
(Longed for but never seen)
Waves rain-blackened twigs
At an empty window.
