Canadian Immigration β Boom or Bust
Canada has a proud history of immigration. Why do some now want to close its doors?
Last summer, Canadaβs population grew to a record 40 million people - a moment the Canadian government described as an βexciting milestoneβ.
The Canadian people didnβt necessarily agree. Canada has long been proud of its multicultural roots, but - for the first time - surveys show a significant number believe there are too many immigrants coming into the country.
Accusations that newcomers are hurting βthe real Canadaβ are spreading on social media, with some arguing that Canadian cities simply canβt support so many new arrivals.
The ΒιΆΉΙηβs Celia Hatton travels to her home country to learn why more Canadians are questioning their countryβs relationship with immigration, and why others are fighting to keep the countryβs doors open to newcomers.
