Somali singer Nimco Happy has become a global celebrity. Her love song, Isii Nafta, began to trend on Tiktok in October, and now there are more than 100,000 videos online of fans throwing shapes to the catchy tune. Celebrities have got in on the act, including Cardi B, Trevor Noah and Mo Farah. It is a significant breakthrough for Somali music, and has brought joy and pride to many Somalis.
In this, the first face to face interview Nimco Happy has given, she talks about the origins of the song back in 2017, how it has been popular in East Africa ever since, and how her life has changed since her song went viral.
