Alastair Leithead is in the Sahel: the vast, often lawless, stretch of desert that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea is increasingly attracting radical extremist groups linked to Al-Qaeda and the so-called Islamic State.

Harriet Constable is in South Africa where the Aids epidemic has left 7.1 million people HIV positive. It鈥檚 estimated that 1.5 million children have been orphaned by the disease, and parents who've been infected struggle with how to tell their children they might be next.
