Rachel is the one daughter in the Cazalet family. She has always lived at Home Place looking after her parents. Her unselfish nature means she has always happily put others first. But now the Duchy is dead and Rachel must look to the future. At last she may be able to make a life with her long time friend and lover, Margot Sidney 鈥� 鈥楽id鈥�. But can Rachel bring herself to leave the family home? Over the course of the series Rachel is forced to confront the fact that nothing is forever.
Sid (Helen Schlesinger)
Sid is half Jewish and lives and worked in London as a music teacher. Sid feels that now at last she may have her adored Rachel to herself; they deserve some proper time together. But Sid is also aware that Rachel finds change hard. Pragmatic to the end Sid knows she must find a way of ensuring that they both find a way of facing a future that is vastly different to the one they planned.
