Food waste plant ‘massive for Worcestershire’
Discover the £30million attempt to make the county greener, on derelict land in Worcester. The 'Gas To Grid' site will take discarded food waste and use it to heat homes.
A builder has now been secured for the facility, which would convert 16,000 tonnes of domestic food waste into biomethane gas each year.
Tom Edwards reports, with Stennard Harrison, from 'Stenergy', as well as Keith Warburton, and Darren Smith.
Worcestershire County Council are set to make a decision on the plant by March 2025. An objection has been lodged by West Mercia Police, on the grounds that it'll cause too much disruption to their HQ, which is up the road in Hindlip.
Councils legally have to start separate collections for food waste by 2026. If this plant doesn't get built, as it stands that discarded food would end up in landfill or go to the incinerator.
