A real hidden gem: Abbey Wood's Cathedral of Sewage
Built in 1865, The Crossness Pumping Station is famed for it's wrought-iron decoration.
Known as the 鈥楥athedral of Sewage鈥, Abbey Wood's Crossness Pumping Station first opened after The Great Stink of 1858.
It was a fully functional sewage station until the 1950s and is now recognised as a 鈥淕rade 1 Listed industrial heritage site, and a masterpiece of 19th-century engineering, architecture, and design.鈥
