Why are there so many unpaid carers?

Stephen Manderson, aka rapper Professor Green explains the importance of ALL carers.

Nearly a million more people could have unpaid caring responsibilities across the UK by 2035, according to new research. The Joseph Rowntree Foundation says the 10% rise is down to a 鈥渃risis of care鈥 as people are getting older and living with illnesses for longer.

Stephen Manderson, aka rapper Professor Green, has been shining a light on the importance of all types of carers, and looking into the support available for them. It's a topic close to his heart, after he was raised by his grandmother and kinship carer, 'Nanny Pat'.

In response to this film, the government said that it recognises the role of unpaid carers and will consider how best to support them as part of its promise to 鈥榞rip the crisis鈥 facing social care. It says it's working towards a sustainable National Care Service.
