Warwickshire mum had to wait nine days in hospital to have her baby

Katy Ingram from Rugby had her son Xavier at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire on Valentine's Day, 9 days after being admitted.

Katy Ingram is from Rugby and had her son Xavier at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire on Valentine's Day this year, 9 days after being admitted for induction.

Induction is the process of starting childbirth artificially, and since 2021 has been offered to all women from 41 weeks of pregnancy.

The Warwickshire mum says that more staff and more beds are needed to cope with the number of induced labours they're dealing with at UHCW.

She spoke to 麻豆社 CWR's Phil Upton about her experience.

In a statement, University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire said:

鈥淎cross our community, we tailor our maternity care to the individual needs of women with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for their pregnancy.

鈥淭here may be many reasons why women may want or need their labour to be induced, but our overriding priority is to ensure that each baby is delivered safely and recovery time is optimised.

鈥淥ur birth induction rates fall within the normal range for NHS Trusts across the country, and we are continuing to monitor trends to inform future service delivery demand and capacity.鈥
