Showjumper Murder: How a 999 lie threw police
The story of Jonathan Creswell, a predator horse trainer who brutally attacked his 21-year-old victim Katie Simpson – and tried to cover up the crime.
When he spoke to the 999 call handler, Jonathan Cresswell was pretending to be a good Samaritan. He claimed to have just found his partner’s sister Katie Simpson after she tried to take her life.
In fact, he had brutally attacked her for hours beforehand.
He maintained the pretence through her wake, even sitting beside her mother at the funeral.
Yet for months, police seemed convinced Katie Simpson's death was a suicide.
In this episode of our 5 Minutes On podcast, Â鶹Éç Northern Ireland reporter Jennifer O'Leary looks at how it took a campaign by friends and family to convince detectives to take a second look at the case.
