Maldon cancels annual Christmas fayre
A 鈥渕odest鈥 lights switch-on will take place instead after the event鈥檚 chair stood down.
There won't be a Christmas fayre in Maldon this year after its chairman decided to step down from organising the annual event. Instead, a 鈥渕odest鈥 lights switch-on is going to be held instead.
Michael Pearlman is a Maldon Town Councillor and has organised the past eight Christmas fayres.
A spokesperson said "After careful consideration, Maldon Town Council has announced that it will be delivering a modest Christmas lights switch-on event, in place of this year's Christmas Fayre, due to take place on Thursday 28th November 2024. Since the decision was made in March to run the event in its previous format, the organising committee has lost two key members, and it was felt that the ability to deliver the fayre to the scale of the previous events would not be possible."
"The council understands the importance of the Christmas Fayre as a cherished Maldon tradition and is committed to exploring alternative ways to celebrate and support our local businesses and artisans over the festive period."
