Lincoln taxi firms' concern over rise of Uber
Taxi and private hire companies in Lincoln say they're concerned about the increasing numbers of Uber drivers in the city who are licensed elsewhere, and that it could potentially lead to safeguarding issues.
Anyone who drives for a Lincoln-based taxi firm is subject to checks by the city council - but that doesn't include Uber drivers, who can legally drive in Lincoln using licences from other cities.
Under private hire laws, there are no geographical restrictions provided journeys are booked in advance. Uber insists that their drivers are fully checked and their licences are issued by a local council.
