Tributes have been paid to Jamie Crandle, who died after being arrested at a Brentwood hotel in November 2020.

Mr Crandle's mother, Jackie Moxley, says her son was "amazing, funny, loving, caring" and that he was "the son that everyone would love to have".

An area coroner has heard how police were called to a disturbance at the De Rougemont Manor hotel in Brentwood on 11 November 2020.

Jamie Crandle had been seen displaying erratic behaviour and hotel staff were unable to calm him down. He was observed jumping over a fence into a nursery and back out, entering a house and setting off an alarm, before running down the road.

After he pushed past police officers, he was arrested and placed into the recovery position, but his condition deteriorated and he became unresponsive. Paramedics declared Mr Crandle dead at the scene.

The jury at his inquest concluded Mr Crandle鈥檚 death was drug and alcohol-related, but the area coroner Sean Horstead said Mr Crandle would 鈥渘ever be defined by the tragic end鈥� and paid tribute to a much-loved family man.

Essex Police has said in a statement:

"Our thoughts have remained with the family of Jamie Crandle since his death in Brentwood in 2020.

"Following Jamie Crandle鈥檚 death, a referral was made to the Independent Office of Police Conduct and following an independent investigation, it was determined that there was no wrongdoing from Essex Police.

"The safety of anyone who comes into our care remains as a priority.

"We would again like to extend our condolences to Jamie鈥檚 Crandle鈥檚 family."
