Police Body Cams - A failure of duty?
The use of body-worn cameras was meant to improve trust in policing. But, in the course of a two-year investigation, the 麻豆社 has discovered they are also being widely misused.
Police officers are widely misusing their body-worn video cameras, including switching them off when force is used.
A 麻豆社 investigation also found cases of officers deleting or not disclosing footage, and sharing clips on WhatsApp.
The cameras were introduced to improve policing transparency, but more than 150 reports of failings have been revealed where no officers had lost their jobs.
The roll out of body-worn cameras has cost at least 拢90m over the past decade.
The Home Office says police use of cameras must be lawful and justified.
In this episode of our 5 Minutes On podcast, our Investigations Correspondent Noel Titheradge shares his findings.
