Rosebank: the new controversial oil field

The 麻豆社's Business Editor Simon Jack and Climate Editor Justin Rowlatt break down the issues surrounding one of Britain's biggest energy projects in years.

It's one of the biggest projects of its kind in years: regulators have given permission for a company to develop Rosebank, the UK's largest untapped oil and gas field. It鈥檚 far out in the ocean, 80 miles to the west of Shetland, but estimates suggest that by drilling there we could produce 300 million barrels of oil.
The UK government's welcomed the move, saying it will raise billions of pounds. The Scottish government has called the decision disappointing. But the decision is controversial because of the impact on climate change, with environmental campaigners say it's obscene.
This is a really complex issue with lots of different elements, so for this episode of the 5 Questions On podcast the 麻豆社's Business Editor Simon Jack and Climate Editor Justin Rowlatt break down the issues to explain why Rosebank is so controversial. (Image: Getty Images)
