The UK's First Womb Transplant

Surgeons in Oxford say the womb transplant - from one sister to another - was a "massive success". The younger sister - the recipient - is now planning to have IVF this autumn.

Surgeons in Oxford say the first womb transplant in the UK has been a "massive success". The recipient was a 34-year-old woman - the donor her 40-year-old sister, both of whom wish to remain anonymous. Doctors say they have recovered well from surgery and the younger sister plans to have IVF this autumn using embryos that she and her husband have in storage. A team of around 30 carried out the procedures, lasting around 17 hours, in adjoining operating theatres at a hospital in Oxford in February. So how complex was this procedure and are we likely to see more in future? The 麻豆社's Medical Editor, Fergus Walsh, has the answers in this episode of our podcast, 5 Questions On.
