"She could have caused a fatal accident."

Anthony filmed a motorist moving traffic cones on A12 so she could avoid traffic jam.

National Highways has condemned a motorist who was caught on camera moving traffic cones on the A12 in Essex so she could get out of a traffic jam.

The incident happened on the A12 close to the Marks Tey junction, in a section of roadworks, where traffic had been at a standstill for 15 to 20 minutes due to an accident.

A female motorist was then seen getting out of her car, moving two lines of traffic cones out of the way before trying to cross and join a lane of moving traffic. She was prevented from joining the other lane by a highways worker.

麻豆社 Essex speaks to Anthony Foulkes, who filmed the incident unfolding from his vehicle, where he was sitting stationary with his engine switched off.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "We take incidents like this extremely seriously. The actions of this driver were inherently dangerous - not only to themselves but other road users as well.

"Since this footage was brought to our attention we have been in contact with Essex Police and are working to identify the driver.

"At this early stage we believe the incident took place on the A12, close to the Marks Tey junction and followed a nearby collision which our contractors were in the process of helping to recover.

"Traffic management measures, including cones and signage, are there for the safety of the public and our workers. Moving them and driving through marked off areas is an offence, a breach of the Highway Code and highly irresponsible.

"Safety is an absolute priority for National Highways; we want everyone to get home safe and well, and that goes for our workers too."
