A Refugee's War
When Shelley Baskind took in Anya Lykholit and her family after they fled from Ukraine, neither had any idea about the incredible discovery they were about to make.
A year ago, the Lykholit and Baskind families didn’t know of each other’s existence. But the Russian invasion of Ukraine changed that. In an instant, Anya Lykholit had to leave her life in Ukraine behind hoping someone in the UK would take in her and her young sons, Alex and Mark. She posted on Facebook asking for help. Shelley Baskind - form North London - replied. Shelley is the granddaughter of an Hungarian Jew, who fled to Israel. So they knew all too well the courage it takes to move away from all that is familiar and secure. And as the women got to know each other – this chance encounter turned into something more. War, fear and kindness led to a discovery neither saw coming. For 5 Minutes On, Â鶹Éç Correspondent, Daniela Relph, meets two women and hears how they found out they had something very special in common.
