A year ago the first air-raid sirens rang out around Ukraine's cities - a foreboding alert of an impending attack. At the time there was shock and anger at Russia's actions.
Now, the sirens are the soundtrack to many people's lives. And with each day that's passed since then, Ukraine's fightback has been forged - from the top, with President Zelensky and the military - but also from the Ukrainian people. In their own everyday lives, Ukrainians have played their part, showed courage, in any way they can. Above all, the Ukrainian people keep reminding the world that war is about metal - and mettle.
