'I'm giving something old and cherished a new lease of life'
Timothy Batchelar is a violin, cello, double bass and viola maker based in Braunstone Town, Leicester.
He also repairs and restores instruments - everything from replacing strings, to bow repairs and wood reconstruction of much-loved instruments.
Timothy was trained by William Luff and Pat Naismith in the Department of Music Technology at the old London College of Furniture. In his final year he was awarded the prestigious W.E.Hill & Sons Prize. He is known locally as an amateur bassist, and is the principal bass of Oadby and Wigston Civic Orchestra.
Timothy showed Ben Jackson around his workshop and shared some of the secrets of what's becoming a rare skill.
