What is the potential of nuclear fusion?
A US laboratory has managed to produce energy through nuclear fusion
Researchers have confirmed they have overcome a major barrier - producing more energy from a fusion experiment than was put in. The hope is one day this generates electricity on a commercial basis but the team involved are the first to caution that is a way off. Today's Mishal Husain spoke to Dr Andrew Mackinnon, who is part of the diagnostics team at the US government's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Professor Jim Al-Khalili, theoretical physicist, author and presenter of the Life Scientific on Radio 4, about what this development means for the future of clean energy.
