COP27: World leaders ‘aren’t doing the right thing’
UK politician says ‘wind and solar power are far cheaper than oil and gas’ but world leaders are not sharing the technology properly
The world climate change summit in Egypt is to hear from heads of state and government looking to galvanise global action to tackle climate change.
The initial high-level segment of the COP27 gathering in Sharm el-Sheikh will be comprised of leaders’ speeches – from major oil producing economies as well as from developing countries worst-hit by the effects of global warming.
Sir Ed Davey is a British politician and Leader of the Liberal Democrats. He is also a former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. He told Newsday: “When I was…kick-starting the offshore wind industry, it was quite expensive but the price has come down dramatically…now wind and solar power are far cheaper than oil and gas…that’s why I get so cross and extremely disappointed when some world leaders…aren’t doing the right thing and they aren’t working with the countries…because we have the technology to have a really successful outcome, which both tackles climate change…but also does that in a way that is affordable.â€
