Child Holocaust survivor: I have hope for humanity
One of the youngest survivors of Auschwitz, perhaps the most infamous of the Nazi death camps, has told the 麻豆社 that she loves life and without hope it would be hard to wake up in the morning.
When asked by 麻豆社 Hardtalk's Stephen Sackur if she is optimistic about humanity after all she has experienced, Tova Friedman said "it depends on the day" but she does "have hope".
Ms Friedman, who was born in Poland and was only six years old when Auschwitz was liberated, also asked whether it was part of humankind鈥檚 darker nature to think "if we get rid of our neighbour we'll be happier".
Speaking of her family, most of whom were murdered during the Holocaust, she said, "what is it exactly that we did to deserve to be annihilated?".
Six million Jewish people, 1.5 million of them children, died in the Holocaust - Nazi Germany's campaign to eradicate Europe's Jewish population.
