‘Revolutionary change’ needed to fight climate crisis

The author and environmental campaigner George Monbiot has told the 鶹 that revolutionary change of the world’s political, industrial and agricultural systems, are needed to prevent the worst effects of climate change.

Monbiot, who was arrested at an Extinction Rebellion protest in 2019, said more people participating in non-violent civil disobedience and demanding action would lead to what he called a “tipping point”, and the situation would then change very quickly.

“We just need more people at it basically,” he told the 鶹 Hardtalk programme’s Stephen Sackur, "that's the same with any democratic challenge, you just have to stick with it and wait for the opening.”
